A fellow artist colleague, Sharie Mateo, wanted to collaborate on an art performance project to release 99 red balloons in front of Los Angeles’ City Hall during the Bush Jr. administration; a commentary on the uneasy feelings of the times of having an elected leader in charge of nuclear codes with a questionable level of intelligence, post 9/11 sentiments with a war on terror, and the possibility of easily mistaking a random object in the sky as a bomb threat.
