Food in the Making | Storyboarding & Stop Motion

The Treehouse

As I explored more into showing food crafting and not just styling on Instagram, it was natural to play with video mediums, and I wanted to spice things up for viewers. Stop motion was a nostalgic and fun way to work with food, so I gravitated towards that.

Enjoy!

This first project plays on my love for coffee, my morning ritual of making a pour over, and my love for adventure. I also love the cover artwork on all of their coffee bags.

Storyboard: The choice to animate the beans - I love, and am proud of, LA born and bred Cafecito and already knew I wanted to feature their roasted beans as the stars of my movie. This being on IG, I knew I needed to keep it as short as possible, but still have a storyline, a fun one, so I decided to keep the main plot points to about nine total “scenes.” Some key moments needed to be how the beans are introduced, a nice “Hello” type message, and I wanted something still relevant to education in making food, so the pour over needed to happen. The ending scene needed to stay on a light, friendly, and fun tone, and this is all tied together with a whimsical score.

Baking Time

Makin and oldie but a goodie… chocolate chip cookies! ‘nough said.

Cinco de Mayo Fun!

Strawberries n Cream and Horchata Paletas! Here’s a nice way to cool off and have some fun while you’re at it.

Flavors are endless, use any fruits you love, roots, veggies, sugars, confections, etc.

For vegan options, you can sub heavy cream with coconut cream or full fat coconut milk, other plant based or nut milks.

Beat the Heat!

Stuck at home with bored hungry kids, a health conscious family member, low on time, and it’s too hot to turn on the stovetop?

My summer go-to is Vietnamese Spring Rolls. They are filling, cooling, easy to put together, do not require an oven or stove, and can be fun way to have some family time (or at least a way for you to get the kids involved and help you in the kitchen) .

Easy as Pie

Here’s a quick and informal way to make an open faced pie, and it tastes great! I didn’t think this was possible. It’s the pie of my dreams.

The crust is SUPER flaky (I didn’t even try too hard to keep the butter as cold as can be - on a warm day at that). Very versatile, you can throw in your favorite fruits or veggies, and it can be made savory or sweet (think feta or cheddar cheese, onions or leeks, and potato or tomatoes)!

This is my mixed berry galette how-to video in stop motion. Hope this inspires you to try it out!
